In Portugal, mostly swine are slaughtered for public consumption. The data from April 2023 show a decrease of more than 48 thousand swines slaughtered for public consumption compared to the previous month. Over the same period, the number of slaughtered cattle also decreased, while the number of sheep increased by almost two thousand.
The months of December and March show a higher number of animals slaughtered for public consumption, such as swine and sheep, which is explained by the holiday seasons.
